The Scriptures are the Church’s charter and foundation, her only final rule for faith and practice. All that the church does is to be regulated according to the doctrine and practical instructions given in the Scriptures. Since the Scriptures are her only warrant for ecclesiastical authority, she is not to transact anything not clearly addressed by them. The conscience of Christians is free from all doctrines and commandments not specifically provided in the Scriptures in matters of faith and worship, and free from anything contradicting the Scriptures in other life matters.
